Stream Video to iPad Local Network Web Server

I have a computer on my network set up with a web server (apache) sharing a folder or videos (mp4, mkv) to the local network. I'd like to be able to stream those videos to my iPad (jailbroken if that helps). I've tried using VLC for iOS and can't get it to work. It has an option for network but when it's actually looking for ftp not http. I suppose I could set up an ftp server on my computer but I'd like to avoid it if possible.

Any other solutions?

Also, I know VLC for iOS can handle mkv but I don't believe native iOS can handle it.

I use a great $1.99 app called Easy Downloader HD to view and manage MKV files. It's a browser interface, should work fine with your local network HTTP server:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/easy-downloader-hd/id448235087?mt=8

Not sure why Safari in iOS can't play MKV. Seems like an oversight.

Good luck....

For streaming I would recommend
PS3 Media Server for your computer and
An app called airplayer or airplayit for your idevice..

I don't want to run anything differently on my computer besides what I have running currently which is a web server.

NFR key for Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365

Veeam is happy to provide a free NFR license (for 1 year, up to 10 users). This license allows for the non‑production use of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 in your home lab without any feature limitations.

Never got a solution to my specific use case but in the meantime I came across Plex and the Plex iOS app which more than conquered my problem. Thanks!

None of these solutions (including my own) really answered the original question.
