I need to default the Activity section of my Dashboard to only show activities that are either past due or for today, don't want to see future activities until they are due.

The first thing to do is to create a new view for overdue activities.

When you look at the date options in Advanced Find you won't see criteria for overdue, so as a workaround use Last x Years and set x to 99 (or similar) and add a second clause of Due Date Today and then use an OR on both lines.

Then add another clause (outside the OR), Activity Status Equals Open.

The query should return all activities that have a due date which is today or in the past.

You might want to add another clause, Owner Equals Current User if you only want overdue activities for the person running the view.

Having got the view working, then edit the dashboard and set the default view for the Activity section to the new view.
