sharepoint and onedrive lose connection

We have an office 365 E1 subscription. We utilize sharepoint and onedrive on each computer. Periodically, there is a red X on the sharepoint or onedrive connection and the I have to break the connection and then re-establish the connection all over again. Sometimes only certain files have a red X and the rest have a green check mark.
Why does this happen and what can I do to prevent this from happening?
We have a Windows domain environment. Most computers use Office 2013.
