sbs2008 : windows could not search for new updates : error 800B001

On a SBS2008 SP2 getting 'windows could not search for new updates ' error code 800B001.

On opening WSUS console, getting 'Error: Connection Error' : Reset Server Node option does not fix.

The following test from the error copied to clipboard:

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the

problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

Try Microsoft Windows Update troubleshooter and reset update components.

Then try Windows Update Readiness Tool.

I have had luck resolving errors with the WSUS console by repairing dotnet.

Start > Control Panel
Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs
For each instance of MS .NET FRAMEWORK click on CHANGE > REPAIR
Allow the repair process to run and complete
Try WSUS console again

I tried your suggestions & whilst these didn't directly help to resolve the problem, nevertheless useful tools for other issues.

In the end, I went through various web updates & after several hundreds of updates the problem disappeared. it's all working now.
