Sage 50 Accounting 2013 - unable to open company data

We just had a NAS setup in our small office. We are using Sage 50 Complete Accounting 2013. We only hae two computers accessing the company data. Originally, it was located on one computer in c:\sage\peachtree\company. And the second computer accessed the data via a mapped drive (P:\company)
We copies all files inside the Company folder to the NAS. Created the Mapped drive for BOTH computers. We are having TWO problems:
1. the computer that used to have the data located locally, will connect to the data... but if I attempt to delete or move the original data, then I cannot open the data on the P drive. It allows me to click on open an existing company, the bar across the top changes as if it will open the company and then goes back to the original screen. I am unable to access the data. If I put the original company info back, the I am able to open the company data on the P drive... I cannot tell which company data it is opening... I do not want it to open the data from the local drive any more.
2. on the second computer, I cannot open the data. I get the same symptoms. the top bar changes with all the options, file, edit, lists, maintain, etc. and then reverts back to the original screen with no company open.
If I try to restore from a backup that we made before making any changes, I receive the following error: the destination company for the restore operation could not be opened.

Is this the US version Sage 50, the Canadian version or the one used everywhere else?

Although the program is working, it does not actually solve the original problem.
