Connecting SharePoint 2013 to Outlook 2013 - beyond the basic parameters

Can any one explain how to connect a SharePoint contact list to Outlook 2013 and to direct the contacts into an existing Outlook directory.  The standard toolbar "Connect to Outlook" functionality adds a new node on the Contacts directory tree in Outlook under the heading Other Contacts.

This has two disadvantages: first is searching within Outlook on contacts is harder and second, it is not possible to replicate this list to the contacts list(s) on a mobile device.

Thanks

Hi,
afaik this is not possible ootb - see the following info from the SharePoint Online team:
http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/158/t/78724.aspx

There might be 3rd party tools/apps that can handle this like https://www.sharepointams.com/en/products/sync-sharepoint-with-smartphone-contacts but they will cost money.
