Ensure Open/Save Company in QuickBooks
Our client is using Windows 7 Professional and QuickBooks 2013. They have company files stored on their servers "D" drive commonly used for data containers. On their computers this drive is mapped as their "F" drive.
Given this is an accounting office, there are hundreds of company files on the "F" drive, and this list is always changing. When they go to open a company file, the company they want is NOT in the "previously opened" companies. Further, we don't want it to be as their too many companies. In all cases the accountants click on "open or restore an existing company". This is where the problem arises.
Sometimes the open company no longer points to the QuickBooks directory on the "F" drive. Also, when a new company is created and they want to save it, sometimes directory is NOT the QuickBooks company files folder on the "F: drive.
Question : how do I ensure that when they OPEN an existing company OR SAVE a new company that they directory is ALWAYS points to "F:\QuickBooks Company Files"?
Requirement: that they start with QuickBooks whereas clicking on file in a folder is not an acceptable option.

John,
Thank you for your valued input. Given more then 500 company's, each having many years of data, the RECENT company list will not do the trick. Also, it does not allow sorting the list by last modified date nor a search functionality.
I am looking for a vbscript, bat file, or .net code that will be executed upon the open of QuickBooks, that will insure the open/save function is pointing to the proper directory of the server.

The correct answer is: You cannot do what you are trying to do in QuickBooks.
Deleting the question is bad behaviour on your part.

You can do two things:
1. In the QuickBooks Recent File list, under OPEN, there is an edit list link. Edit the list and remove entries you do not need currently. I do this but I do not have as many companies.
2. Instead of Recent, get into the habit of using Open or Restore and navigate to the ledger you need.
There is NO pin function like Office 2013 backstage.
