convert a pdf to a series of images in php

Hi

Is there anything in php that will take a pdf and convert it to a series of images, one images per page.

If not how would i go about doing this? Would i have to call a shell script to do it perhaps using backticks or is there some other way

I'm not knowledgeable in PHP, but if it is able to make a command line call (most languages are), you could try Xpdf's PDFimages, which, in a single command, is able to extract all the images from a PDF file and save each one in a separate image file (PBM, PPM, or JPG):
