Shared Projector

In a meeting with several participants from one company, one participant was connected to the projector. The others were able to use the projector through that one laptop.  How is this done?

Many screen sharing web interfaces allow this. e.g. GoToMeeting, WebEx, Join.Me, Live Messenger (Skype), VNC,...

Others can request to take over the screen, at the host's discretion. He can disallow sharing of the screen at anytime.

Do not need specifics.  I thought it might be something along those lines but wanted to see if there was something else going on.
