Does Outlook need installed on database server for xp_sendmail to work

I have been asked if outlook needs installed on database server for outlook to work?   Can someone help..

You need some mapi client for XP_Send_Mail

However you can use msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail to accomplish your task.

Sql 2000 is currently installed we now have outlook 2013, network admin is asking if outlook need installed on database server.   I am not sure 2000 support  send_dbmail?

That's a 2005 feature (saw that from the zones you posted in).  If it's 2000 only then yeah, put outlook on the box and call it a day or get an upgrade.  You're only 14 years out of date!
