Where to put Google Analytics

Does Google Analytics code go into the header or footer of a WordPress site.

Or does it matter?

In working with raw HTML, I always put it right before the </body> tag.

I am using the plugin "Insert Headers and Footers".

Thanks

The newest scripts load async so it doesn't matter a ton.  I prefer the footer using these instructions:
