Coaxial Cable Extender

Is there a device that boosts the signal for cable (coaxial) if distance is more than 50 feet? - or is something like that needed to still have good quality signal?
also, what would be good quality coaxial cable 50 feet or longer?

Who is Participating?
What exactly are you using the coaxial for?  Televison, networking, something else and what is the specification of the coax.
