need to setup a shared calendar in smartermail

We're running smartermail 13.1.5451 and activated a trial of microsoft exchange activesync in order to be able to use a central calendar for planning meetings, time off etc.
Everybody is running microsoft outlook (2003, 2007, 2010 or 2013). The outlook client is what we want to use for meetings etc, not the web interface of smartermail. I found info in the smartermail kb on using "add to outlook" but the description says "Add to Outlook does not, however, sync domain resources like shared calendars and contacts".
Is there any way to do this? Basically we want to be able to use outlook to plan meetings, etc and have that information automatically update a central calendar so we know when we are trying to invite somebody to a meeting at a time they are already busy.
