I ran the schema extension for exchange 2013 but was wondering if I have to do anything seperate for AD prep for exchange 2013 or can i just let the exch 2013 setup handle it once I start the install of exchange 2013?

Exchange 2013 will do this when you attempt to install the first 2013 Exchange server in your environment. You need to ensure that your account is part of the schema admins group and enterprise domain admins group. If the domain is not prepped and while you run Exchange 2013 it will fail.

Every other subsequent Exchange 2013 server you add to your environment (after the first one) you only need to be part of Organizational Management group.

I ran the schema update but that was it. Do I need to run anything else or just run the exch 2013 setup at this point?

If you have already extended the schema successfully then you just need to install Exchange 2013. Make sure that you have Enterprise Admins while you are installing the first Exchange 2013 server in the environment.
