Error when creating new ASP MVC 4 project in Visual Studio Express 2012 for Web:

Web application projects are currently configured to use IIS Express...Configuring IIS Express failed with the following error:

Filename:redirection.config

Related to this is that when I try to open a Web Site in the Local Internet Information Server dialog box under "IIS Express Sites" is an error message "Cannot access the the IIS Express applicationHost.config file.

Try this fix

1/ Close Visual Studio.
2/ Rename the %userprofile%\Documents\IISExpress\config directory.
3/ Start Visual Studio again. The %userprofile%\Documents\IISExpress\config directory will be recreated with the default config files.
4/ Copy the original applicationhost.config file over the autogenerated one.

A similar method is rename the applicationhost.config file, then right click on the web project and select Use IISExpress. You will get an error due to the renaming of the config file.

Change the name of the configuration file back to application.config. Ensure "Use Local IIS Web Server" is selected in the web project settings. Run the solution.
