how to set conditional formatting in a pivot table

I set conditional formatting of a pivot table (red for neg value and green for poss value) but when I refresh the pivot, the formatting disappears.  What am I doing wrong?

I find if I apply the conditional format to the entire column of the pivot table then the formatting stays persistent even after refreshing.

This does not work.  My Pivot table is being fed by an external data source (Access Database).  When I open my Excel file - and the data refreshed in my pivot table - and the conditional format seems to disappear (colored text changed back to black).

I opened the conditional formatting rules -they are still there:
Cell Value < 0 (Red Text)
Cell Value > 0 (Green Text)

But all the text is black.

Any ideas anyone???

Got it...had to edit the formatting rule to "All cells showing "XXX" values - under Apply Rule To:
