Yes a virus, your solution did not work because the scan method u suggested was of no use because the only way to recover is from shadow copy or restore from backup. <br />

I didn't suggest a scan method, I merely said that it looked like the behaviour of a virus and suggested a search on the internet for possible resolutions.
