I suspect this is a virus corruption.

There are a number of viruses out that change the extension of a file and will mess with the content of the file. If you do a Google search with "virus ITTOOLK" it comes up with a few mentions of ittools.dll getting corrupted.

Thanks

Hi Rob,

Yes a virus, your solution did not work because the scan method u suggested was of no use because the only way to recover is from shadow copy or restore from backup.

CBT-Locker, email variant

I didn't suggest a scan method, I merely said that it looked like the behaviour of a virus and suggested a search on the internet for possible resolutions.
