Virtual Machine Backup - Manual Best Practices

Hi,
What is the best way to backup VMware virtual machine manually till we have Veeam / others backup software in place?

Currently I have part of the infrastructure under a vCenter Managed HA and the rest on standalone VMware Hosts running VMs independently.

- Shall I use vConverter to copy the VMs to a local disk? or Turn the VM off and download its VM directory from the Datastore.

Please advice on the best practices.

Thanks
Zen

VMware Converter is an option for FREE, which can do it...(live!)

see my EE Article, there are free tools in my Article which can do it...

VMware ESX/ESXi Backup Guide

this can do it, but you will need to power OFF!
