I want to make a web page with an excel like spreadsheet / datasheet on it that is attached to a php database.  I want to be able to add records as well as edit and delete them.  Are there some samples out there that I can follow?  Thank you.

If you don't want to embed an excel spreadsheet in the web page then you might have to live with a little less feature implementation.  

This looks like it might give you most of what you need:
