Can srm placeholders be host vmotioned?

We use VMware SRM v5.0 to connect our production and disaster recovery sites.  Is it safe to vmotion the VM place holders between hosts?  The SRM placeholders are scattered between my 16 ESXi host servers.  I would like to move the placeholders so they are group together just like they are grouped in the production site.

When I attempted to host vmotion a placeholder a warning is presented that it is a bade idea to vmotion managed vms.  So I always click no.

Is the Warning Message, about this entity is being managed by vCenter Site Recovery Manager Extension...and not recommended to modify it directly?

and this is a vMotion, not Storage vMotion ?

as a warning none of the placeholders should be changed, and also it's not supported if you change them either.

BUT, if you look at you SRM console afterwards, after making any changes, look at the Protection Groups, and check they are in an OK state, or not configured - if they are in not configured, you will need to Re-Protected them!

Same applies to Storage vMotion or Storage DRS (which can also affect DR sites and SRM placeholders!)

The reason VMware does not recommend the changing of any, is because of possible failure at Failover.

Making changes at DR site, can cause additional work for SRM Administrators...(if you make these changes it does work...)

BUT, VMware does not support this! (but know it does happen, and it works!) - but if Failover does not work, and you've been doing this, they will hold up the Not Support Card!

I'm off to bed, I can discuss this with you more...

So, a long winded answer to..."Can srm placeholders be host vmotioned"

YES, but not supported by VMware.

if you do it, check afterwards, check status is OK, it not configured, you will need to Re-Protect!
