How can I get my ESXi 5.0 host to recognize the HP Smart Array P222 controller with external Storageworks array?

I built a new vm host from a HP DL380 G7, added a 2nd P222 controller and attached an external storageworks array. The server finds the controller without issue and I am able to configure the array and the volume. I loaded ESXi 5.0 on the host and it sees the onboard storage without issue but does not recognize the P222 storage controller. I updated the firmware but it is still not recognized. How can I make this host recognize this controller?

Are you using the HP OEM version of ESXi 5.0, a drivers is included on the HP OEM version for this Smart Array Controller.

No, this is a standard VMware build, but the controller is on the list of supported devices.

Download and add the driver manually.

I'll give it a shot, I was thinking there may be a configuration I'm missing since the driver should be bundled if it's supported.

But it's only bundled if you use the OEM HP ESXi 5.0 version, which includes ALL the drivers for HP servers and devices.
