Client has a lot of hi-res photos (average size, 5 MB) on a network share, the machine where the shares are located is on a MS Server 2012 machine.  He has about 50 folders with about 30 photos in each folder.  When he goes into a folder, he wants to use the extra large or large icons to get a preview of the photos but the only thing that is displayed is the place holder.  If he selects the medium icon, the photos are previewed but it takes some time for the thumbnails to show up.

Network speed on the wire is 1GB through out so I'm thinking it has something to do with the server.  We have tried to limit SMB to "1" but access to the server shares are still relatively slow.

The file server role is installed, the firewall has been disabled and the image folders are exclude from the A/V scan.  No improvement.
