footnote being split by columns on page

In Word 2010 I had a footnot on a page, but when I created sections on that page and made two columns, it split the footnote over colums. How can I prevent this?

Word 2013 can do this easily.  For earlier versions, there are instructions for a workaround at http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/ftnotespancolumns.htm.

I would not want to breach the EE code of conduct, however I am surprised that you consider mvps.org as a competing site, any more than you would consider a link to microsoft.com as a link to a competing site.  mvps.org is not a paid Q&A site like Experts Exchange; rather it is a place that knowledgeable users have posted information.

Is there an official definition of "competing site"?

Hi Let's Go. I am working in Word 2010, I tried to apply this solution in 2010 but was unable to accomplish what it is I need to do. Is there a Word 2010 reference to this problem somewhere?

I'm sorry; I don't know of any other references.  However, attached is a document which I created in Word 2010 by following the instructions in my link above.  The method is a bit fiddly and I cannot guarantee it will work in all circumstances.
