Hi all we have a Exchange Server2013 running on Hyper V, and we use a Piece of software Called Active Image Protector to back up the Host and Vm's, however I have just noticed that the exchange logs are not being purged.

so we created the Server last November and have Transaction logs going back to that date

any ideas?

It looks like ActiveImage Protector isn't Exchange VSS aware or at least not configured properly if it is. You need use backup software that is Exchange VSS aware in order for the logs to be truncated.

You can opt to use the built-in Windows Backup feature (which is free) to back up the partition where your Exchange database and log files are stored or look at a third party product such as Acronis, ShadowProtect, Symantec Backup Exec, etc. etc. if the backup software you have isn't Exchange VSS aware.

If you'd like to use the built-in Windows Backup then see this article for more information: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876854%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx
