There is nothing that can do this. Binary can be anything, a compiled program, or something else. so first of all without knowing what the source was before compilation or what the binary file is, there is no way to convert it to text. Besides that, Compilers remove anything that isn't required, so if you convert it back to source code all the remarks the programmer had put into his code will not be there anymore, making the program very hard to understand.

Sorry, I didn't explain my question well.  I don't want to convert source code.

My main goal is to convert a text file to its binary equivalent.  I remember way back when I was working with assembler language I could bring in a text file and see its hexadecimal equivalent next to it.

I want something similar.  Can you think of anything that might do that?

"My main goal is to convert a text file to its binary equivalent"

What do you mean with that? A text file is just a text file. There is no binary equivalent. If you are talking about the formats of different word processors, like m$ word, then it is best to use that software to export it to *.txt, or you can also open a txt file and save it in m$ word format.

If you are looking for a HEX editor, there are many, just search for hex editors. They usually do the same thing, so I doubt you can classify one as best and another as worst. Most likely any product will do fine. Below is an example:
