How to setup 2nd exchange server?

This is working on a MS Windows 2012 r2 ad domain. There is currently one ms exch2k13 server. However, the server where the exch2k13 is installed is quickly run out of resources. Now, my management has bought a new server hardware, and I was tasked to setup the 2nd Exchange 2013 server. How should I setup the Exch, and how abouth CAS, mailbox, hub transport? Shall I use DAG and if so, how to do it? Because ultimately, the 2nd exchange server would take more load.

Thanks in advance.

I am assuming if you already have 1 2013 mailbox server you have both CAS and MAILBOX roles installed on this?

You can simply add another server with Exchange 2013 with both roles CAS and MAILBOX. DAG is pretty straightforward as long as you setup the drives and using the same OS version.

If you are also using CAS on this server you will need to setup a load balancing solution either Layer 7 or 4. I would recommend using a Hardware Load Balancer. Do not use Window Network Load Balancing as is it not supported in production environments and also will not work when you have a mailbox server using DAG because of the Cluster Service Role.

Exchange 2013 DAG

Load Balancing CAS Exchange 2013
