There isn't any VBA in the document, however this code works OK for me (Word 2007).
ThisDocument.TextBox1.Text = "abc"

Open in new window

Do you get the same problem with any other documents with ActiveX controls?

Word refuses to open the document here, reporting 'problems with the contents.''

If you have a backup that you can still open, but has the original problem, I suggest that you try saving it as .rtf. This forces Word to do some rebuilding and it could remove the corruption in doing so. You can save it as a .docx file later.

Otherwise you will have to recreate the document.
