How do you authenticate a user to post status updates to Twitter and Facebook?

I'm writing an application that will post a status update in Twitter and in Facebook. I'm confused about how to authenticate the user. I will need to do this for many different users, so I will need each user to allow access.

Does anyone have a working example of authenticating a user and posting a status update in either Twitter or Facebook or both?

I'm writing in PHP.

Yeah, I got that. But a working example would be the most help to me as I had originally indicated. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

i use an oauth library which i have not had any issues with.

it's not really possible to provide a working example of this as this in not a simple task, and every application will have its own nuances. the script above provides some examples you can work from
