You will need to install Google Analytics so you can begin analyzing what is occurring with the site. I'd also recommend integrating Google Webmaster Tools. If your host has an analytics package installed, you'll want to dive in and look for down trends and identify what could be causing them.

Without analytics in place, any hypothesis is just a shot in the dark. For example:
1.) Maybe your competitors dropped their prices
2.) Maybe your competitors are providing a new value add
3.) Maybe something new on your site has caused an increased bounce rate
4.) Maybe a popular page on your site has a problem
5.) Maybe your host has recently had an outage
6.) Maybe your host has recently had performance degredation
7.) Maybe the phone number on your site is not working properly
8.) Maybe Google has reduced your ranking on a very effective keyword

Again, these are all just shots in the dark. Analyzing your analytics will help narrow your focus.

A short term stop-gap would be to start advertising via Adwords, so you can bring your ranking back up (albeit you'll have to pay). If you have analytics installed already, you can use a strategy to the effect of:

1.) identify your conversion rate ((visitors / sales) *100)
2.) identify the value of your conversions (ie. what is a sale worth to you (lifetime value preferably))
3.) Start your campaign with a break even CPC (conversion value * conversion rate = break even cpc)

With this model you can begin to capture sales at a break even cost, then work on optimizing your site/offer/etc to improve conversions and reduce your acquisition cost.

By "suffering" what are you seeing?

Rankings dropped on branded searches? Rankings dropped on a specific keyword/phrase?

Decrease by how many? (1, 2, etc spots)

Are there sites ranking above you that you have always been competing with, or are new competitors suddenly appearing?

Assuming you have Google Analytics installed, when exactly did the change in your traffic occur?

You mention that you are using Adwords. Are you also seeing negative performance occurring in Adwords? If so, what exactly is occurring? (ie. avg position suddenly changing, quality score dropped, etc.)

Hi Lucas,

> The phone has stopped ringing. Its difficult to find myself.

Rankings dropped on branded searches? Rankings dropped on a specific keyword/phrase?

> Dropped on everything I search for.

Decrease by how many? (1, 2, etc spots)

> Ive a small site. Im usually in the first 2 pages of google.  I can barely be found now with all the competition.

Are there sites ranking above you that you have always been competing with, or are new competitors suddenly appearing?

> Both.  New competitors and existing competitors doing way better.

Assuming you have Google Analytics installed, when exactly did the change in your traffic occur?

> I don't have it,  Ive a word press site. Should I install it?
I can see If my ISP has any stats installed to check traffic.

You mention that you are using Adwords. Are you also seeing negative performance occurring in Adwords? If so, what exactly is occurring? (ie. avg position suddenly changing, quality score dropped, etc.)

> I got a call from google ad words and tweaked it.

Ranking on Google ranking  - How important is Linked in? How important is Facebook?

Ive a kid to feed and need to sort this.

Any tips appreciated.
