asked on

Will Autodiscover reconfigure an existing Outlook profile in a cutover migration?

We are performing a cutover migration from Exchange 2007 to Office 365.
Currently, there is no autodiscover DNS record configured.

If we setup the standard CNAME record...

AUTODISCOVER     AUTODISCOVER.OUTLOOK.COM

...will the user's Outlook profiles reconfigure themselves or will it be necessary to setup a new profile for each user?

Thank you for your time in advance.

Hi,

i'm not shure about this one, but I know that when you are doing cross forest migration, with autodiscover configured, after mailbox is moved to new exchange outlook will detect it, and reconfigure automatically.

Guess this will be the same, but not shure.

So I can simulate this with a HOSTS file entry but AutoConfiguration only seems to occur if I modify Logon Network Security under the Security Tab to Anonymous.

Will this occur when we make the production cutover with the proper CNAME record?

I am fooling Outlook to use autodiscover.MyDomain.com by pointing it to the IP for autodiscover.outlook.com (with a HOSTS file entry) so I am hoping this is why I have to change Logon Network Security to Anonymous but I need to be completely sure.
Hi KB,

You will need to configure outlook profile separately. Outlook does not know the change so you need to install Office 365 autodiscover in your client machines.  It will prompt to enter the details when reconfiguration happen.
