Drag & Drop file to windows form in Windows 8 / Server 2012 not working, works on Windows 7

At our company we have an internally developed windows application that we use as part of our document processing workflow. The application allows a user to capture msg files, files attached in the email or from windows explorer by simply dragging them onto a specified drop zone on the windows form. Currently this application works fine without issue on Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 and Outlook 2007 - 2013.

The issue we are having now is the application works great when dragging items from Outlook but no longer works when dragging items from explorer on Windows 8 or Server 2012.

This is the only stumbling block we are encountering and delaying implementation of our new Citrix farm. I have attached the vb file for the application in question if needed. Thanks in advance for any assistance here.

which part is running from citrix?
what is the difference to the current / working solution?
if your app runs within a citrix session you can not drag and drop from local explorer to this app.
(should not work with older versions also)

Sorry for the confusion. This is not Citrix specific. Nothing has changed from a development stand point. From an OS stand point we are changing to Server 2012 / Windows 8, which is where the issue lies. It does currently work on Windows 7 and in Citrix now.

My machine is Windows 8 and while debugging it is acting the same as in the above.

Actually I just figured this out. For others experiencing this same issue, I had to disable UAC in the registry as follows:

1. Press Windows + R buttons.
2. Type Regedit in the window that appears.

This will open Windows Registry Editor.

3. You have to go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > System
4. Find the key EnableLUA, and change 1 to 0.
5. Press OK and restart the computer

After the restart, Drag and Drop should work for all programs.

When you completely turn off UAC, programs working with the new Start menu (Metro interface) will stop working. Such programs are Weather, Travel, Maps and others. Since this is in Citrix we are not concerned about users having these features.
