Software photocopier for Mac OS X?

I'm looking for some (preferably freeware) software for Mac OS X which will scan one or more pages from a scanner, and then immediately print them to a printer.  Like a photocopier, but where the scanner and printer are separate pieces of hardware.

Any ideas, please?

What sort of scanner do you have? I've seen some manufacturers include that sort of software with the purchase of the scanner.

It's an Epson, and you're right - they did include suitable software with their pre- Mavericks/Yosemite compatible drivers.  The Yosemite-compatible driver works fine for scanning, but they don't supply a photocopier app with it.  And the app bundled with previous versions of the driver doesn't work - I checked!  Hence the need for a third-party app.

Then there may not be a solution for you as the printer is not suitable?
Have you updated?

Thanks Merete.  It should be possible for an app to do this, because the TWAIN driver for the scanner is working, so any app can hook into the standard API and scan.  Plus the printer driver is working, so likewise any app can print.

So I remain hopeful!

Maybe VueScan
have a look
VueScan is an application for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux that replaces the software that came with your scanner

there is a comment here I read that maybe of interest to you he states>Push button printing (i.e. 'scan then print') doesn't work with my Epson scanner and OS X's Image Capture. Thats where I get the VueScan idea.

Thanks Merete,

It does look like VueScan would do the trick, although it seems that the Professional Edition is the one to go for, and it's $89.85.  The other link doesn't seem to apply to Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite - I don't see an "Automatic Task pop-up".

As it turns out, I've found a newer version of the Epson Copy Utility (version 4.0.1) at the following humungous URL.  It's bundled with drivers for a different Epson scanner but seems to work fine.  And it's free:

Thanks very much for your help.

Merete's solution looked as if it'd work, but it isn't freeware, as I was hoping for.  I found an Epson utility which does the job, and is free to download.
