Lync 2010 Edge and WSUS

My Edge server is not communicating with WSUS to receive patches. In my configuration we are not unjoining the machine from the domain. I figure since there is no gateway configured on the internal NIC that is why it stopped communicating. Does anyone know how to get around this? Maybe a static route on the box? Thanks!

Solved the problem by adding a persistent route on the edge server like the following.

route ADD <destination subnet> MASK <mask> <gateway>
