knockout default value

how can i set the value for a observable filed for the first time using a custom binding i.e. initialize it with a value then if something changes make changes using observable.

When you define it in your view model:

e.g.

var vm = {
    somevar: ko.observable("default value");
}

ko.applyBindings(vm);

A custom binding will use this value if referenced.
