Install and run the System Update Readiness Tool. It verifies the integrity of the Windows update files.

Run the Microsoft Update Troubleshooter.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

hen open cmd.exe with Run as Administrator and run SFC /SCANNOW. Allow to complete and restart the computer.

Test to see if that works.

 Other possible fixes:
 1. Restore to a prior point (Recovery Options).
 2. When all the above fails, run Windows 7 Repair Install. You need a working recovery partition or the Windows 7 DVD. Here is a Seven Forums tutorial to assist.
