IPAD 3 Crashes several times a day with many different apps.

Every since three updates ago from the most recent IOS release my Ipad 3 (Version before Ipad Air) crashes on a regular basis and when using several different apps so it does not seem app specific. It seems to have started with the 8.x IOS update or the first 8.1.x update after 8 was released. The iPad is not and has never been jail broken.

It crashes and does a full reboot like I did a reset. So far I have tried turning on different features, even tried airplane mode and it did not help. I tried rebuilding it and restoring from backup at least once and it still does it. I tried doing a power off and back on and then do a reset and sometimes it will work ok a few hours and then it will start crashing again.

Usually if it operates fine and then crashes it will start to crash every 20 or 30 minutes while using different apps, some times it will go a day or two before crashing.

So far the only thing that seemed to help was letting the battery drain and then do a full charge but this last rash of crashes that did not help and it started crashing soon after.

Does anyone have any ideas of what might be the problem or what I can do to fix it? I have had it over a year so I am guessing Apple won't do anything about it if it is faulty hardware. If it is not under warranty I would be willing to replace hardware if I knew that would fix it and can order the part.

This whole thing is very disappointing. I have never had issues like this with any of my iphones, if I didn't already have a lot of apps I rely on and use with my phone I don't know if I would buy another iPad or not.

Have you tried a complete recovery? Put the iPad into recovery mode and connect it to iTunes on your computer, and once reset, see if it's still misbehaving

I have done that but I could try to test it more before restoring it. If it turns out it looks like something in the backup is causing it to crash is there any way to recover data without restoring whatever is causing it to crash?

Is there a way to run a repair like a check disk or defrag on a ipad?
I'm not sure about chkdsk/defrag. If it's stable after a restart, i would go to the app store and reinstall apps one at a time.

Ok, I did a full erase and reset of my ipad. I manually installed a few apps that I had previous crashes and it worked fine for an hour or two and then it just did a crash to the apple logo on one of the apps.

Any ideas what else I can do or do I have bad hardware?
It's beginning to sound like it. Curious though. Did you install each app and test for a while before installing the next or all of them at once? It could be an app conflict or an app not compatible with the IOS version installed, so installing and testing one at a time could point to the faulty app.

I did with the main app that I was using.

Is it possible to run diagnostics on a ipad? I looked around for a tool but didn't find something from a reputable looking site.

I tried another wipe and installed one of the apps I had issues with. it crashed in the app store twice and then seemed to work fine for about a day and then crashed again. I am testing it again tonight but one thing that seems to help is when it has a full charge and then after it crashes it gets worse.

Has anyone ever heard of issues with a battery going bad and causing crashes?
