Cleartype did not fix this text issue
Oh well, Cleartype did not fix the issue.
When trying the other solution of repair to Office we are prompted for a disc.
Is that the Office 2007 disc?
And does it matter that these text irregularities occur when using a non Microsoft browser?
We tried the Cleartype link because it seemed the easiest solution but it failed to solve the problem. Then again we have not rebooted but the installation did not say we needed to.
Not aware of a file validation add-in disc.
It's not just typed text with the keyboard, it is also the appearance of text on some websites using Chrome or FF. See the second image.

Let me reboot.
Also I could not install Cleartype using FF.
I had to use IE which we have not used in the last few weeks except for certain bookmarks.

Reboot did not help nor did right click desktop > etc.
Here you see an attempt to send a message.
In the title window the text is normal but not in the body of the message.
In the second image you see the text when using Chrome to access their search feature. The fonts are not normal though they improved some once the screen shot was taken and saved.

Good spot awawada, FWIW it also affects browser windows in XP
KB3013455 has dependencies in KB3029944 and KB3023562 and those should be removed in that order prior to KB3013455 to prevent any system instability.
Well done Microsoft another patch winner!

MASQ: Neighbor uses XP and they do not have the same issue. It definitely started after:
a. Windows updates seen below
b. Malwarebytes scan.
c. CCleaner scan and "more items were checked" to be removed than the default. So, it seems something may have been "removed" (??) not installed.
Will try John's second suggestion. The Office 2007 add-in did not help. Nor did Cleartype.
I did not install that KB but it may have been installed in the Windows updates that were received the night before the issue appeared.
However I added check marks to several entries before doing a CCleaner scan so we "removed" things that had not previously ever been removed using CCleaner.
I'll have to locate the Windows updates and see if KB3013455 was part of the new updates.

I don't see the 1303455.

Nickg5, was called to an XP machine today which had exactly this issue with fonts in Chrome and was fixed by removing the three updates listed (machine is under Microsoft's extended support programme). They were pushed in last weeks's Thursday update as critical.
You should look through the whole list. The screenshots are sorted by products, not by date. Therefore the whole upper part will be Office updates, while we were talking about MS Windows Updates. The update is definitely in there, just sort on date (though you might still look careful through the whole list).
ASKER
I did look through the list and found no more Feb. 14 dates. The issue started on the 15th so if the KB in question was removed 3 months ago then that may not be the problem. The problem started the 15th.
I just typed a document using Word 2007. Fonts are fine.
But, here is a Hotmail e-mail message using Firefox, the # and the = are distorted as you can see and most other characters are close to normal.
See below.
Also the fact that we check marked alot of "non default" settings in CCleaner before the scan could not have removed something that was needed?

Can you still make sure by using a cmd box:
wmic qfe > updates.txt
and then attach updates.txt to your reply?
Updates.txt will be in your c:\users\username folder (unless you cd to desktop first).

MASQ: It's not only a Google Chrome browser issue. It is also Firefox.
I have not reset IE
I am doing the SCANNOW.
Below is the update from Feb. 15th.
Since Microsoft knows about it should we just wait vs. un-installing the updates?
SCANNOW found some corrupt files but "access is denied" to the text even though hidden files are exposed, etc.

While the answer is "Yes you can", let me emphasize again how easy it is to gain FULL control over your whole system if you decide to do so (very simple drive-by malware is enough).

Give details?
Remove the Feb. 15 updates?
Do a system restore to Feb. 14?

How to get passed "access denied" to view the results of the SCANNOW.

Proof of concept here (One-Bit To Rule Them All: Bypassing Windows’ 10 Protections using a Single Bit):
http://breakingmalware.com/vulnerabilities/one-bit-rule-bypassing-windows-10-protections-using-single-bit/
KB3013455 fixes about 10 holes, of which this is one. Removing update is enough to solve the problem, system restore is not needed. But as I said, do it at your own risk.

There's no need to exaggerate. Sure you're right! We pulled back the update for many thousands of clients.
@nickg5
- Never work as an Administrator
- Keep your AV (and Firewall) Up-to-Date
- Keep your other Software Up-to-Date
- Do not open suspicious attachments (scan any with VirusTotal etc...)
- Do not visit suspicious Websites and use an internet security addon like WOT
- Don't use Internet Explorer till MS fix this update
But as Kimputer told it's at your own risk.

awawada:
The font issues are not IE but when using Chrome and Firefox and then visiting various websites.
In some "subject lines" or "title lines" the fonts are fine but in the text box they are not.
We do go by your list above except the next to last one. We do not know which websites could be malicious. We have Trend Micro and do scans with Malwarebytes and CCleaner periodically.
The font appearance is really bad on sites like Ebay, Craigslist, other sites where you have to type text or see text. It is not an issue for MS Word documents. They are fine.
Google and MSFT hate each other so MSFT may be slow to issue new updates that fix it, who knows.

Did you install KB3013455?
.............Yes I did.
I went to the link provided by MASQ.
I chose the first one for download. Which you see to the left of the orange X.
I downloaded that one and got a message that it was not for my system.
I thought KB3013455 was the right one. I have Vista 32 bit.
So, I went back and check marked both the KB3013455 and KB3037639 and the download and installation completed fine.
Does this mean the suspected update that caused the text problem was the KB3037639 and not the other one?

KB3037639 is what you need but install it AFTER you've installed KB1303455.
KB1303455 fixes the security issues but messes up the fonts, then KB3037639 puts the fonts back how they were.
You know the story about the old lady who swallowed a fly .... :)

There were two updates to download. The KB1303455 did not match my system according to the prompts.
It determines if KB1303455 is the correct answer.
I went ahead and downloaded both of them as seen by the two orange check marks in the previous image.
Then Windows let the downloads to proceed.

LeeTutor..........let me know.
The issue is resolved. It seems Microsoft issued new updates, etc.
I can close the question and award points to the comments directly related to the solution which was to do nothing...........
Downloaded and/or un-install of certain KB files was not needed.
File checker and SCANNOW was not of value.
I did do the scan and asked how to see the results of the scan and no member followed up to that.

Download was not possible during your question, the patch was released at a later date.
Uninstall was indeed the solution (but you denied you had the patch installed, later a screenshot showed you DID have it installed). I already said you had it installed, even when you denied it. Everyone recommended you to uninstall it to solve the problem. I didn't though, preferring security over this inconvenience, and asked you to wait for it to be fixed by MS.
Just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean it's not the solution. What I said was EXACTLY the solution.

I asked more than once how to get the SFC/SCANNOW results posted after the scan and no followup by J. Hurst.

Why the question marks?
I even EXPLAINED why I knew it was the answer and WHY I don't recommend it (security!). Sometimes, since we can't all be on the MS Windows Kernel team, there are indeed only 2 options.

Cleartype affects Windows System Font appearance - that is any system typeface within Windows - so other non-Microsoft programs (including browsers) which use Windows fonts are affected.
