quota policy application hierarchy

I am looking at max mailbox size quota policies. I have run get-mailboxdatabase, and get-mailbox. In get-mailbox the prohibitsendquata setting is set to unlimited, yet at the get-mailboxdatabase level, it is configured at 2GB. Does that mean the mailbox database policy will be being applied to all mailboxes in that database? Or do you take the get-mailbox policy and assume there is no limit?

Out of interest what would happen if there were conflicting values at mailbox and databsae level, which setting would be enforced?

Hi,

when you set storage quota on database, that quota is applied to all mailbox's in it.
If you want to modify that quota for a single mailbox, that can be done. In that case, quota set on mailbox will take precedence.

That is the reason you see get-mailboxdatabase level at 2gb, but for some mailbox that limit is unlimited.
Usually you set unlimited or some higher level of quota for important users, but you don't want to create new database for just a few users.

At mailbox level all our mailboxes say unlimited.... so does that mean they are unlimited.... or do they fall subject to the database level policy...ie 2gb
