I already have a few OLD Dell PowerEdge servers and plan to purchase some more Gen12 or Gen13 Dell servers to run Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.

Can the free

be setup to email automatic "hard drive" failing messages so I can replace before they fail ?

If not, what software can do that ?

Maybe the below iDRAC7 Enterprise ?

Yes and no lol OpenManage can but you'll need DellSMTPNotify Application and DellSMTPNotify Alert List installed also. But it will not do that directly you need to configure an alert that will show the status.  if you configure “Alert Email Action” as per the requirement you will get notified by an email about hard disk status of specific server.

1)     Severity Association: Warning, Critical.

2)     Category and source Association : In this case select “Physical Disk”

3)     Device Association: your own created device group.
