Why are the Citrix apps not showing?

When user opens a Word document using Citrix Receiver on a Windows 8.1 laptop and then she clicks back to go the Citrix Main Menu, she cannot get back to the Word document nor does the "Word" icon show on the Task Bar.  Is this because Citrix is running in a Windows 8 "Metro" app?

If that is the case, not sure how that happened because it should just be running the standard Citrix Receiver from the Desktop view.  So that when she logs into Citrix and from the main menu of Citrix, if she opens a Word document (or Outlook), those icons should show on the Task Bar.  She states it is not.

If I have her right click and go into Properties for the Taskbar and check "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar", will that solve the problem?

I think I may have solved the problem:  the user installed the Citrix app from the AppsStore which runs in Metro App because the Default Program for Citrix Receiver was set for the Citrix Receiver BUT the one from the AppsStore.  I was able to change the default to the actual Windows Citrix Connection Manager and now any application launched runs correctly and shows on the TaskBar.
