How I stop distorted text in newly cloned Windows 2003 server on Esxi 5.0?

We have recently performed a physical to virtual conversion of a legacy 2003 instance to Esxi.  The server runs some legacy software that is not compatible with newer versions of windows.  In any case, after the conversion, much of the text that is contained in spreadsheets, application reports, websites etc. is slightly garbled.  It is readable, barely, just 'off'.

Some text on screen is perfectly fine.. menu bars, icons, are all perfectly legible.

I have no idea how the conversion would have had any effect on displays, but I'm looking for some guidance in any case.

Any help is much appreciated.

The issue of fuzzy or corrupted fonts has come up several times in here. There was a Microsoft Security Update issued (KB3013455) that caused this in some Vista and in some Server 2003 machines

Unless it is a major issue, probably best you do not uninstall the update as Microsoft will probably issue a fix.
