Potential client wants me to move his ecommerce site from his current host to a new host.  The current host is also his former webmaster.  The site is a very involved ecommerce site built in word press.  Is there a way to salvage the database?

Do i need to get a new ssl?

If the domain name is the same, just hosted on a different server, then your database will likely transfer across just fine. To be sure, you could do a complete SQL dump of the DB, which will create a .sql file. This is basically just a text file, so you can open it in any decent text editor and search (and replace if necessary) any old-server specific paths.

If the domain name is different, then you could still use the above procedure - just search and replace the old domain for the new.

There are various tool to make this easier. The 'default' tool is phpMyAdmin, which is a web-based database management tool, and is usually accessible through your hosting control panel. Personally I prefer a PC hosted application called sqlYog Community - other include the MySQL Workbench.

As for the SSL - yes, you'll need a new one. SSL Certificates are bound  to the IP address of the server, and this will be different between hosts.
