Move WSUS to new server

I have been tasked with moving our WSUS server to a new server. The current system is running on a Windows 2008 Enterprise server locatated on an internal domain. Need to move to a company domain server most likely will be 2008 R2 server. I have found that the WSUS server is connected to an SQL server that holds the SUSDB, the wsuscontent files remain on the server. Admittedly I have not seen this set-up before, what does the SQL DB contain, I thought it was all maintained on the WSUS server.
From what I have read on searches recommendations were to install WSUS on the new server, set up similar to old server and move the wsuscontent over. Not sure what to do with the SQL link.
Hope this makes sense and someone to point me in the correct direction.
