Vcentre and ESX host

When a VMware 5.0 host is built you can use the root/admin to get into the box and do the usual but when its joined to a Vcentre does local access stop or can you still choose to login to the box if you had an issue with vcentre.

yes you can still connect to the box as root if you need to
had that issue last week where the vcenter server had issues and couldn't login to windows
i connected directly to the host through the vsphere client to reset the vcenter guest
