How to port / transfer over whatsapp messages from iPhone 4S to 6+ (after iTunes restore)

My spouse just backup her iPhone 4S & restored using one of the latest version of iTunes
to an iPhone 6+ (on IOS 8.1.2).

Contacts, emails, photos & SMS messages are there.  No Whatsapp applications so we
just installed from appstore & all Whatsapp groups got created.

But how do we get all the past Whatsapp threads of conversations (including images)
from the iPhone 4S to the 6+ ?

I recall there used to be a free service on one website that allows us to transfer
messages (think it's both whatsapp & SMS) from old phone to a new phone but
have lost the website's link

Backup them on 4S using Whatsapp and then activate whatsapp for the same phone number on Iphone 6. It will let you restore the messages from backup. I moved my history from Iphone 4 to android phone this way.

Could you give me step by step instruction on how to take backup using Whatsapp & then restore into
the new iPhone 6's whatsapp?   I'm only a very basic user of whatsapp, have not come across any
backup and restore function/facility in whatsapp

If I've already done the above activation on the new iphone 6, do I need to deactivate whatsapp on
it & then reactivate again so as for the restore to work?   If so, let me know how to deactivate whatsapp
on the iphone 6

In Whatsapp settings - chat settings - archive. Do you see such option?

Yep, saw "Archive All" : so I do this on the iPhone 4
& then do "Unarchive All" on the iphone 6 ?

Have started to use the iPhone 6 for several days, so will the
"Unarchive All" on the iPhone 6 overwrite (instead of "merge")
all the recent whatsapp chats in the iPhone 6?

Wait, I checked by friend on his iphone. In Settings - Chat Settings - Backup all. Backup now.
This is what you need.
When restored they are merged.

On my iphone 4, it's
Chat Settings ==> Chat Backup ==> Back Up Now (Auto Backup is Off)

Just want to confirm the merging is something documented & have
you tested it & it merged?

Each time it will prompt to Verify & when I tap on "Verify", it asks for phone #
& will send an SMS with a 6 digit code: I can't do "Verify" (Resend Code) on the
other phone within  7 hrs

It did not delete in my case anything. Facebook the owner of whatsapp does not document anything.
