In my previous 2 questions : one
We've created a eventlog archiving script. Right now it appends the logs to the end of the archive files. What I'd like to do is compress each log file, utilizing the "compressed folder" option windows natively supports: Hey Scripting Guy
We'd likely have to break the single archive into subsequent archives...
On the first run where the logs are saved, move them to the compressed folder(s) (one folder for each log is fine). On the next run, the logs will be a continuance of the first run and in a new file, they too should be placed in an archive folder. The archiving folders are to save bandwidth, especially on the first upload of the files.
I'd like the script to check for a windows file share, and if able to connect, attempt to copy the files to that share. Once the files are completely copied, log the date+time and the file names in a new log file (completed.txt) local to the vbscript. If unable to contact the file share, obviously no files are copied.
Last part, files that have been copied successfully to the share, and are 7 days old
, can be deleted. But no deleting if a file has not been copied yet. Again PowerShell is not an option.
Please let me know if there are any questions!
