dual monitor high resolution

Using a dell pc with an amd firepro 2270 and two monitors with the max resolution of 2560 x 1600. One of the monitors is a Philips 272C4. The firepro detects this monitor with a highest resolution of 1920x1200, but the monitor is capable for 2560 x 1440. How can the  firepro card support the 2560 x 1440 of the Philips monitor? tia.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

are you able to get the higher resolution with just one monitor with the second one disabled?
that is a lower-end card (site shows 512mb/1gb memory) and may not be able to handle that high resolution on 2 monitors

GeologyETHAuthor Commented:
no, with just the Philips monitor, the resolution remains the same.

Check the specs of your card. If you are using an Analog output, it is limited to a max of "1920x1200". If you can use a digital output it should use the full resolution.

thanks, rindi and Seth. The firepro 2270 has a DMS-59 to dual dvi adapter to which the monitor is connected with a DVI dual link cable. Do I miss something here?
I updated now to the latest drivers, but still the highest resolution of the Philips monitor isn't available.

Maybe the cable is bad? From what I gather it also supports display port and so does your monitor. I'd try connecting the two via display port.

the cable and adapter are new. Tomorrow, I can try with a DMS-59-DisplayPort adapter.

thanks, rindi and Seth. Now, with additionally the DMS-59-DisplayPort adapter the monitor works with its highest resolution.
