Can DirSync with password sync be used prior to a 365 IMAP migration to provision mailboxes with their passwords?
Thus eliminating the need to collect everyone's passwords?
Are there any step by steps with DirSync as part of a IMAP migration?
We have a non Exchange IMAP mail server.
Thank you!

Hi KB,

As far as I know, due to the way the IMAP migration works with the CSV file, you have to have the passwords.
Essentially it uses the CSV fields to automatically create migration requests by populating the required parameters with these, and as such the email address, name and password are required.

I do stand to be corrected, but I have never heard of this... it would make life easier though....

Can DirSync be implemented and when and how?
Guy LidbetterCommented:
Yes it can, it is best used prior to migrating your mailboxes so that users can use Single Sign On.
When you setup your domain in the O365 Cloud. As you will be doign an IMAP migration, you will have to have a mailbox for every user prior to migration. DirSync will create all the accounts for the mailboxes.

Guy thank you for your replies.  What AD attributes must be present for DirSync to Sync? - & then the migration batch will occur   what will need to match?....
Guy LidbetterCommented:
No problems KB. It only uses the email address to identify the mailbox...

In saying that... If you don't use DirSync and create all the O365 accounts by batch and have an admin account that has full access to the MAPI mailboxes... you could provide that as the username and password in the CSV for all entries, saving you the task of collecting passwords. So all you need is a long list of emails....

Have you done this setup before?...
Is there any documentation published on this scenario (DirSync for initial provisioning of an IMAP migration?)
