"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It will be the phone most likely, but could also be something like a CRM application.

If you change the contacts to Category view, you can add Created Date. You will probably find that the creation date for the duplicates is the same.
Very common unfortunately, it is usually caused by a third party app touching the contact and modifying it in such a way that the device and/or Exchange thinks it is a new contact.
