SQL2014 named-instance alias

Hello, this is in SQL2014 Standard. I am creating aliases for my existing DB connections ie "mydb.mydomain.com" and "mydb.mydomain.com\myInstance". They all point to the local server (SQL2014server) and port 1433. The former works fine but the latter (the one with the named instance) doesn't. Any ideas? Thanks

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Are you certain you provided the fixed port in the alias definition? I cannot test with an unnamed instance, but with named instances as target it works whenever the alias definition is correct.

How are you creating the aliases?
EugeneZ ZhitomirskySQL SERVER EXPERTCommented:
do you have 2 sql servers instance on the same box?

if "yes" your 2nd named should have another port ( see port in "SQL Server Configuration Manager')
in this case you can use: Alias, port

for example: mydb.mydomain.com, 1435

Hi guys, thanks for the answers, this was my mistake, there was a space at the end of the alias definition in SQL Configuration. I removed the space and everything works now!
